When
Sallie Jayne Avis and her family moved to Ness, on the Isle of
Lewis, Scotland she had a general idea of using her fashion and
design skill to develop a small business.
Sallie
decided to concentrate on making hats with Harris Tweed and providing
an alteration service. By springtime 2005, business had taken
a totally different turn as Wedding Dresses for brides, bridesmaids,
and for mothers of brides and grooms became Sallie's main focus.
In
2004 Sallie did one wedding, in year 2005 there were 14 in the
schedule, and almost a full order book for 2006. Previously Sallie
studied fashion at Clarendon College, Nottingham, and worked for
10 years at a bridal company where she made dresses from start
to finish. In 1996 Sallie completed a City & Guilds in lace-making,
getting the bronze medal, and was the only person that year to
achieve this standard.
